Science is Science Fiction Story Fuel, so I read all the latest scientific discoveries all the time. Let me tell you how I might fictionalize these discoveries. Then you can tell me how you’d do it. The best answers get free books from me.
Science Fiction Story Fuel – Getting Sucked into a Black Hole
Falling into black holes has been done before in books and movies, but it’s always been wrong. Now we have a better idea than ever, with a sun being recorded while falling into a black hole.
How would I write about this? I’d show a civilization on a planet around that star and show them trying to stop or escape the disaster. Some would escape and some would not. I’d describe both perspectives.
Which book could you win? We can start with this old favorite:
I’ve got seven more books you can choose from. Read on for more chances to win.
New Telescope, New Pictures from Outer Space – more Fiction Story Fuel
How would I handle these new astronomical pictures in a science fiction story? I’d have them discover an alien civilization, perhaps a Dyson Sphere or a Dyson Ring. Then I’d cover humanity’s reaction to it and what happens next. Larry Niven did a great job with the latter in his books in the Ringworld series.
Andy Zach, Tori Smith and Olivia Smith continue to create a fun interesting world in the Life After Life Chronicles series. The characters are refreshing, the world continues to build, and the insanity increases. Hilarious and action packed.
Audio Version: Michael Stafford does a great job with their respective characters and the overall narration. (Click to get your audiobook)
I stayed up until 1 am this morning to finish this one. It’s that good. If you’re familiar with the first book in Weber’s Honor Harrington series, ‘On Basilisk Station’ this one is comparable in quality and in battle chops. There are a lot of political factions on both sides, a lot of character development, a lot of plot pieces coming together.
A quick summary is the main character, Terrance Murphy, is a privileged, wealthy scion of a war hero. He’s married to the daughter of one of the richest men in the core systems. He’s considered a bit of a lucky fop, who’s only in the navy to improve his political chances.
It’s largely an act. He’s sharp and brave and noble, and everyone underestimates him, which is just the way he likes it.
Arrayed against his is a genocidal murdering admiral of the opposing space navy. Will she underestimate him too?
The humor and action continue in L.G. Estrella’s series about unlikely heroes. First, they must rescue a powerful vampire from an impenetrable prison. Assuming they survive, they then have to fight the Eternal Empire, led by the world’s most powerful mage. He’s planning to use a powerful weapon against their homeland, Everton.
The humorous lines flow fast and free as an unlikely collection of powerful mages and other worldly beings battle.
Another exciting and hilarious story from Andy Zach. If you have enjoyed other stories in the Life After Life Chronicles then you’ll definitely enjoy this one. A fun take on dispatching turkeys in general but of course the zombie variety. Great characters, a fun and interesting plot, and overall the world continues to develop and grow. I look forward to the next book in the Life After Life Chronicles.
Dave Freer writes another great book. As usual, he populates it with fascinating characters. Keilin is a street rat with mysterious psi abilities. Then there’s Shalin, the selfish princess of the most brutal tyrant on the planet. Things go wrong for her when she flees her father’s assassins.
Along the way they meet desert drifters, beekeepers, and a trio of odd, superfighters.
This series is the first I have read of Andy Zach’s and I am not disappointed! This story has tons of action, well written characters, and the zombies are not mindless slow shells. A refreshing take on zombies as a whole. The plot moves at a good pace and the story arc continues to work well over the series. I look forward to book 3! Audio Version: Phil Blechman and Raven Perez do a great job with their respective characters and the overall narration.
This series is the first I have read of Andy Zach’s and I am glad I picked it up! The series continues with lots of action, characters continue to be developed, humor, and the zombies are still not mindless shells ambling around awaiting an axe to the head. Still a refreshing take on zombies as a whole.
I look forward to what Andy writes next!

Boys Books – the New Frontier with SciFi and Fantasy – Come along with me as I go through books for boys–and girls ins SciFi and Fantasy.
I say boys and girls because girls can enjoy books written for boys and vice versa. I know I enjoyed a girl teen romance when I read it in middle school.
I wish I had a nickel for every time someone would say “My nephew/son/grandson” would love this book! Then my costs would be covered. But they’re not yet. But you can help. Just click, buy, and review. I’ll be forever grateful!
This book is a breath of fresh air. It’s a light, quick fun read about–you guessed it–zombie turkeys! It’s the first in a four book series. Small-town newspaper reporter and serial underachiever Sam Melvin has the scoop of his career when local turkeys become undead killing machines. This is a great book if you want a fun, easy read that will make you smile. (Especially good to read at Thanksgiving!) (less)
LG Estrella shows us she can write short stories as well as novels. This book is full of bite-sized morsels of humorous fantasy goodness. You don’t have to read any of her novels to enjoy these, but if you’re already familiar with the characters, you’ll enjoy them much more.
The title story, ‘The Hungry Dragon Cookie Company’ is told from the point of view of a very young dragon, Spot. He loves cookies and he discovers a baker who is great at baking them. The story proceeds from there.
Don’t miss out on munching out on the rest of these stories.

L.G. Estrella continues her winning series about unlikely heroes. After assembling two necromancers, (Timmy and his apprentice Katie), a timid bureaucrat who can magically store an unlimited number of items, and a murderous elven flame mage, she has them fight an army of nearly invincible golems, and a powerful demon.
Stupendous action scenes balance her humorous lines. Lovers of sword and sorcery fantasy and humorous fantasy will be delighted.
